Jerry (Gerald) Lee Wheeler, 1956-2024
It is with heavy hearts that we celebrate the life of Jerry Lee Wheeler, a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Jerry dedicated his life to his family, embodying kindness, generosity, and patriotism.
Born on June 6th, 1956, in Joliet, Illinois, Jerry, along with his sister Rena and brother Gary, grew up enduring tough times. They faced the heartbreaking loss of their parents at an early age, which taught them that life can sometimes be incredibly challenging. Despite these hardships, the siblings persevered, conquering the challenges with resilience and strength.
Jerry joined the United States Air Force, where he served his country with pride, honor and distinction. After completing his service in the USAF, Jerry married his love, Nancy Wheeler, and together they welcomed two children, Austin and Bryan, into their family.
Jerry embarked on a rewarding career in the power industry, initially starting as a mechanic in coal-fired power plants. He later transitioned to nuclear power plants, eventually becoming a knowledgeable and talented instructor, teaching the next generation of mechanics in both coal and nuclear facilities. In the early 2000s, the family relocated to the picturesque state of Colorado. There, Jerry continued his role as a maintenance instructor for the Colorado Springs utilities and contributed to various other utility entities throughout the Western region.
In the mid-2000s, Jerry and Nancy moved to Tennessee, seeking a peaceful retirement and the opportunity to be close to Jerry’s son Austin and his growing family. A few years later, Bryan's family also grew to include two children. Jerry embraced his four grandchildren, cherishing the moments and memories as a gentle, encouraging and loving grandfather.
Together, Jerry and Nancy looked forward to embracing their golden years, savoring the adventures and experiences that lay ahead.
Tragically, in mid-2024, Jerry was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. However, he fought this aggressive disease with incredible courage, strength and vigor, never once complaining or feeling sorry for himself. His unwavering spirit shone through as he confronted the illness with the purest mindset. Sadly, the cancer ultimately prevailed, and Jerry succumbed to it on September 7th, 2024.
His memory will forever remain in our hearts, serving as a guiding light. We honor his legacy and the profound impact he has left on us. Rest in peace, Jerry. You will be deeply missed and always loved but never forgotten.
